About the Event

This November, MBE Marcus Ryder and barrister Alexandra Wilson join us to discuss this vital new essay collection. Black British Lives Matter is a response to the international outcry at George Floyd’s murder. Lenny Henry and Marcus Ryder have commissioned these essays to discuss how and why we need to fight for black lives to matter. Recognising black British experience within the Black Lives Matter movement, nineteen prominent black figures including David Olusoga, Dawn Butler MP, Kit de Waal and Alexandra Wilson explain why black lives should be celebrated when too often they are undervalued.

Co-Editor Marcus Ryder has over twenty five years experience working in television and journalism, is the Chair of RADA, and is a leader on the issue of diversity in the media. He was previously the Chair of the Royal Television Society’s Diversity Committee and was the head of BBC Scotland Current Affairs for nearly a decade. Barrister and contributor Alexandra Wilson is the author of the incredibly successful autobiography In Black and White. The book is her account of being a young mixed-race barrister in Britain.
