About the Event

Have you ever wondered about what goes into the publication of Faber’s non-fiction books?

Laura Hassan, Hannah Knowles and Mo Hafeez will talk you through every aspect of the process for the different areas of non-fiction, from acquisition and editing to the publishing of a non-fiction list.

You will have the opportunity to ask the team about their work using the Q&A function during this live event.

Laura Hassan is Associate Publisher for non-fiction at Faber. She joined the company in 2013 as Commissioning Editor for Guardian Faber, having previously worked as Editorial Director at Vintage Classics and Publicity Director for Jonathan Cape and The Bodley Head. She has worked with authors including Dr Gwen Adshead, Alex Bellos, Eula Biss, Alexandra Harris, Sara Pascoe, Justine Picardie, Sue Prideaux, QI, Professor Anil Seth, Francesca Wade, Rosamund Young and Gary Younge.

Hannah Knowles is Editorial Director (maternity cover) for Faber. She is responsible for editing and publishing a full schedule of titles, as well as overseeing and managing the music and pop culture list. Knowles held previous editorial positions at Hodder, Ebury and Octopus, before joining Canongate in 2016 and becoming Editorial Director in 2020. She has published authors including Ali Wong, Courttia Newland, Gina Miller, Mark Radcliffe, Michael Spicer, Nels Abbey and Salena Godden.

Mo Hafeez is Commissioning Editor for Guardian Faber. He started his publishing career at Granta as a publishing trainee in February 2019. Since joining Faber in November 2019 he has assisted in the publication of acclaimed works across the publisher’s general non-fiction and music & popular culture lists. He has worked with authors such as Cosey Fanni Tutti, Michael Pedersen, Kate Molleson, William Atkins, Kae Tempest and Matthew Green.

What to Expect
  • Our online events take place via Zoom and last up to one hour.
  • You will be emailed the link for the event the day before the event at the very latest. If you haven’t received it by the morning of the event, please forward your confirmation email to
