Two Sisters (Playscript)

The play has a Chekhovian title but it recalls JM Barrie in its themes of the elusiveness of youth and the impossibility of controlling time. The teenage chorus are living in a moment of heightened emotion and unknown potential; a moment the adults can never return to . . . [But] rather than allowing himself to be overwhelmed by nostalgia, Greig is funny and wry.

David Greig’s Two Sisters delivers a moving plea for love and humanity in our ageing world . . . the language gradually becomes more surreal and poetic, shot through with a passionate longing for the freedom and possibility of youth, and for the magical and scary feeling of being sixteen.

Delightfully entertaining . . . raw, sparky and fun. Writing light and shade into comedy and ensuring it surprises the audience is a rare knack, and David Greig has it.
