In honour of Larkin’s 100th birthday our new collectors’s edition has been exclusively designed and crafted for Faber Members, with reproduced cover artwork based on the original first edition design by Berthold Wolpe and adapted by Anna Morrison.
This edition is printed on Munken Premium wood-free paper and the adapted dust jacket encloses a beautifully bound hardback with purple cover and gold foiled spine, in a close replication of the original first edition. The books are finished with colour endpapers, head and tail bands and a contrast ribbon marker. This Members edition will be a treasured gift to those who loved the book, and those discovering it for the first time.
Philip Larkin (1922-1985) is one of England’s best-loved poets. His first volume with Faber, The Whitsun Weddings, was published in 1964 and, in its peerless evocation of his native land and its people, is widely considered one of the great poetry collections of the last century.
Philip Larkin, poet, novelist and librarian, was born in Coventry in 1922. He published four volumes of poetry – The North Ship (1945), The Less Deceived (1955), The Whitsun Weddings (1964) and High Windows (1974) – for which he received innumerable honours including the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry and the WH Smith Award.
