Friendship, suspicion, deceit.
And the truth.
Florian Zeller’s The Truth, in the English translation by Christopher Hampton, premiered at The Chocolate Factory, London, in association with Theatre Royal Bath. It follows the phenomenal success of The Father (Theatre Royal Bath, Tricycle, London and West End) and The Mother (Theatre Royal Bath, Tricycle, London), both by Florian Zeller and translated by Christopher Hampton.
Civilised, witty and sophisticated… an elegant variation on standard boulevard comedy.
It’s a great mix… both playful and poignant, cruel and funny. And that’s the truth.
Dark, clever, excruciatingly funny fare.
A pitch-perfect translation by Christopher Hampton… The Truth is funny, thought-provoking and
plays seamlessly as a dream… It is an entertaining, unsettling, must-see show.
Zeller delicately and dazzlingly interlaces the stories of two couples… The play is a study in betrayals, but also hypocrisy. Anyone who knows Pinter’s Betrayal will recognise this play as both a homage and a playful farcical replay of the more painful original… After the play finished, I wanted to see it immediately again to appreciate Zeller’s dazzling craftsmanship as well as his penetrating insight in to the human capability to deceive. Highly recommended.
