Acting Rights Director (maternity cover)
Faber & Faber is among the world’s preeminent independent publishing houses, committed to the work of the most dynamic and significant voices. Faber is looking to recruit a Rights Director, to lead and manage the Rights department for a period of maternity leave, and to embrace the independent and entrepreneurial spirit of the company at a key point in its history.
Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will be responsible for leading and advising on all aspects of the Rights department’s work; for working towards our departmental and company strategies; for line management of three members of staff; for key senior-level communications and meeting attendance; and for ensuring the successful and efficient handling of the broad range of sub-rights handled by the department across all genres, both frontlist and backlist. This will involve close and creative collaboration with agents, authors, and literary estates. You will have financial responsibility for achieving our yearly budget and for internal financial communications, and sales responsibilities including the North American market. The right candidate will be passionate about literature and the global publishing industry. You will have a strong foundation in handling major rights sales and a broad and up-to-date knowledge of international publishing markets, with well-established contacts in the global publishing industry and within the literary scouting community. You will be able to learn quickly and will be used to solving complex problems. The role will require ambition, creativity, the ability to handle a large and varied workload, and the skills to work closely with a range of colleagues whilst ensuring continued development within the department.
To apply, please email RightsDir@faberrecruitment.co.uk with a covering letter and CV, quoting ref FF.
The role can be either full-time or part-time to cover a period of maternity leave of one year.
The current Rights Director works 4 days a week, and we encourage applications from candidates seeking a similar arrangement.
Location: London, with at least part of the week working from the Faber office in central London.
The closing date for applications is 29th June 2022.
