Critic Reviews

It is (Arthur Robins') illustrations that make Eliot's superb poetry accessible for younger children. Ideal for reading aloud, the meaning is clear even where the vocabulary is sophisticated. The colourful and cartoon-like drawings have plenty of detail and added humour.

The illustrations capture all the wickedness, it is lovely to be reminded of such a great poem.

Angels and Urchins

This is a very welcome addition to any bookshelf, whether library or at home. The picture book format ensures it will appeal to the youngest as it should. However, the very modern illustrations suggestive of familiar cartoon worlds, combined with Eliot's genius, make it a book for all ages. Let us hope that there will be more from this partnership.

Books for Keeps

The choice of Arthur Robins to illustrate the poem was another touch of genius, he can imbue such character into his comic creations - the suspect's line up of cats, for example, is hilarious...I am sure this will prove popular as a picturebook in its own right, but it is certainly a joyous introduction to the poetry of T.S.Eliot.

The slippery exploits of Macavity, just one of the much-loved cats from the classic Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, is vividly captured in the cheerful illustrations in this picture-book version.
