Richard Ayoade presents ROAD HOUSE on 35mm | introduction & book signing before the film!
To celebrate the forthcoming paperback release of Gordy LaSure’s ‘THE GRIP OF FILM by Gordy LaSure’, our friend Richard Ayoade will be introducing the Patrick Swayze classic Road House — a screening hand selected by Mr. LaSure!
Richard will also be on site before the film to sign copies of the book, more info on which can be found here; http://www.gripoffilm.com/
Physical copies of THE GRIP OF FILM will be available to purchase on the night.
Doors will open at 19:50, Richard will be signing from 19:50 – 20:50. He will then introduce the film, which is due to start at 21:00 and will be finished by 22:55.
If he signs everyone’s books before 21:00, the film will start earlier.
“In Rowdy Herrington’s 1989 magnum opus about the secret world of security guards, the camera frames a pair of high heels pivoting out of a recently opened car door, before panning up to a HOT GIRL waking towards a club in a CLINGY DRESS. The title comes up, salmon pink: Road House. Straight off the bat we know this film has style.
I’m pumped as s**t that Prince Chuck himself will be showing my fave flick in his personal cinema. The only bummer is that it’s on ratty-ass 35mm instead of pristine digital. And if you see that pin dick Richard Ayoade there, kick him in what’s left of his tiny balls for me” – Gordy LaSure
Gordy LaSure’s passionate about film.
He eats film, he drinks film, and sometimes he’ll even watch a film.
But most of all he loves talking to people about film: whether a comely student with low confidence and a father complex, a Studio ‘development’ exec who doesn’t trust his own judgement, or the countless people Gordy LaSure’s encountered in his capacity as the web moderator on an Excessive Sweating Discussion Forum. Gordy LaSure’s always talking about films and how they’d be a shit ton better if only people would pull their asses out of their ears and listen to Gordy LaSure.
The voyage of this book can be categorised as an attempt to understand How In Hell Film Works. Why are some films bad, and some films terrible? How come just a handful of films (Titanic, Porky’s, Dirty Harry) are any good at all? Gordy’ll tell you How and Why, and he’ll give you a slug of Wherefore on the side. And he doesn’t shoot from the hip; he shoots from the gut.
– Richard Ayoade presents : THE GRIP OF FILM by Gordy La Sure
‘A work of shimmering, glimmering genius . . . A pity perhaps that Richard Ayoade should so shamelessly piggy-back on the talent of Gordy LaSure, just to get his nose in the trough, but I understand that his name will probably get the book a readership that the (criminally) unknown LaSure could not manage on his own. Such is the price of integrity in this cheap world.’
