Three compelling voices from Canada discuss identity, home and the idea of belonging.
Vincent Lam is from the expatriate Chinese community of Vietnam, and was born in Canada. Lam is a Doctor and worked as an emergency physician in Toronto for thirteen years. He now works in addictions medicine and is a lecturer at the University of Toronto.
Marjorie Celona was born and raised on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. She now lives in Cincinnati, Ohio. Celona received her MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where she was an Iowa Arts fellow.
Dionne Brand has published ten collections of poetry including her most recent, Ossuaries, winner of the Griffin Poetry Prize. Her nine others include winners of the Governor General’s Literary Award, the Trillium Book Award and the Pat Lowther Memorial Award. Her novel In Another Place, Not Here was selected as a New York Times Book Review Notable Book of the Year and as a Best Book by the Globe and Mail.
