Caldecott medal winner Virginia Lee Burton was the talented author and illustrator of some of the most enduring books ever written for children. Born in Massachusetts in 1909, she wrote and illustrated seven children’s books, attending to not only the text and illustration, but the layout, typeface and design. She also founded a textile collective and designed textiles herself. Her work is now exhibited in the New York Met, and the Boston Museum of Fine Art. Choo Choo is previously unpublished in the UK.
